The Country House

Yesterday, despite the heat, we took a drive out to the country house. Here are a few photos -- it's BEAUTIFUL there. All the plants have either gorgeous flowers or huge leaves. Definitely tropical. In the photos you'll see B and me along with his family: mom, dad, brother, and his girlfriend. In this first photo, you can also see "caju" which is where cashews come from! Each fruit bears one nut (which you can see hanging from the bottom). No wonder cashew nuts are so much more expensive than peanuts.

  1. LOVE the tree picture and that funky purple/green flower... what is it?

    Looks like you're having a blast. :)

  2. Thanks! The funky flower is a passion fruit flower ("maracuja"). They harvested passion fruit from the vine growing there in their yard and made the yummiest mousse!

  3. oh, I've had caju juice [or whatever it's called] from a Cuban restaurant. Can you eat the nuts right from the tree? How do you know if they are ready/ripe?

  4. Good question! I didn't know the answer so I asked and they said that the nuts are rock-hard. You have to roast them, first.
